I have been thinking about joining PP band next year. From what I have heard about Otto it sounds like it would be crappy. I love to play the clarinet but If Otto's gonna be like that then I wouldnt want to join Pep band. What should I Do? Give me your answer and why.

You should. Otto isn't always as terrible as we make him sounds (but don't get me wrong, he is annoying). You shouldn't choose classes based on the teachers though. Just take what you like and you won't go wrong. You never know if Mr. Otto is going to be the permanent teacher anyway and you'll be upset if you missed out on the experience. Besides, if you know how to play an instrument, he won't get onto you or anything. You'll already be one of the best clarinets there because we have middle schoolers, Leslie (a senior), and Jaimie... but she's never here. And you know, the clarinets sit right below the saxophones so I could talk to you. But I wouldn't worry too much about Otto, if he continues his trail to being a jerk he'll be fired (I know people have reported him), so he can't get much worse. And it's not like you'll be around him all the time. In pep band, we get the first 2 quarters of each game (aww) as a break. Then we really just sit there talking until timeouts.

I say join it for the pure fun of playing music.
Yes, I agree, Otto is... annoying, to say the least. (and has no sense of humor, annoying voice, bipolar characteristics, etc etc... I'm distracting myself) But I wouldn't let Otto influence your decision on joining band. Band is band.
Music and friends. They offer everything I want in life. (Well almost =P)

You'll make friends... and I wouldn't count on me joining Gatton Academy. Lol, look at all the of things that could hold me back.
-Not high enough on the ACT -Terrible essays -Barely any awards or activities or community service to put on my resume -The chance of Mrs. Collins forgetting my letter -The judges just not liking me -Not enough room (they accept 60 students and about 200 apply)
Yeah, so it may not happen.

I'm here and you can talk to me about anything. We're bestfriends, lol. If Sheri leaves, you'll be about the only person I have to talk to. I'm pretty sure I won't join marching band, I suck because I'm a 1st year and no one realizes that. If I mess up, they look at me like I'm stupid. They think the pit is unimportant, so why should an unimportant person join? Although, I would like to play in the basketball pep band, if it was possible to join without taking any of Otto's classes. I'd rather keep my distance for personal reasons that you can read about it my personal profile later.

Not necessarily, but you would probably be better off taking it.

Yeah, Otto has bad memory, so he probably wouldn't remember to tell you half of the things going on. He hasn't told Jay alot of things, so... yeah. Not joining because of social disposition or the lack of talent isn't really a solid thing to cling to... naturally you wouldn't be understanding first year because the whole band has 6 years of experience ahead of your own. Socially, it doesn't make sense not to join band because they're naturally more intelligent, less... unwittingly judgemental. It feels right to be around them. I like the people I've met in band and I never want to lose them. I've developed a sense of love towards some members. And not having talent doesn't stop me... I love the fun. I feel... normal in the bandroom. I feel normal around my friends. And normal around those I have convinced myself that... I love. It's a nice feeling, really. A sense of belonging.

I have made many friends since joining band this year. I would love to join band next year. To be honest, I probably wouldn't have much of a life without it. The only thing I've had trouble with is keeping up all my work along with going to all the band practices, events, etc. It is tough having so much homework from my English ll CP class, but I've managed to keep a 95 in there, so that's pretty good I think.
