Read the rules on Photobucket, it may only accept certain ones. I would reccommend you save your files as .png, but only when it's done because it will merge all of the layers. If you want to save something, and then go back to work on it later, try .xcf.

Ok, so here is my first signature. It's not that great, but I think it's pretty good for a first time. If you have any comments or suggestions on how to make it better, please share.

I have a few tips that I think will really help you. 1- Go to dafont.com to download some cool fonts. If you do that, there won't be a white area around your name. 2- It looks like you used the fuzzy select tool, or just found images on the web that have the white spots all around them. That doesn't look so great, so you should try to use renders. Check out planetrenders.net/renders/ to find any characters or even abstract shapes you may want. Save the pictures you like and open them with GIMP and their background will be completely transparent. I'll add more in a minute, there is a storm right now. Edit: Ok, I'm back. 3- The background is ok for a first try, but you should work on that. You have a lot of room for improvement. 4- This one is optional, but consider putting borders around your sigs.

Thank you so much! +1 Karma
*Edit*
How do you download the font on dafont.com? I tried but it went into a compressed file folder and wouldn't open.

You have to extract the file from the compressed folder. There should either be a button at the top or you can right click it. After that, right click and install it. If you have GIMP open, you'll have to close it and re-open it before you will see the new fonts.

Ok, I've finally got it! The font and renders and everything. This one isn't that great, but it looks good to me.

It's a big improvement, good job! Now, you may want to take into consideration some more advanced tips. For one, try to make the render and background go together, but not so that they blend too much. And that background is a little hard on the eyes, you may want to try something besides stripes.

Thanks! The only reason I've been using stripes is because I'm not sure how to make other backgrounds yet. So, I've just been using the pre-made patterns on GIMP. I've tried working a little bit with layers, but I'm really stuck.

Filters>Patterns>Qbist
If I remember correctly, go to that and check out the different backgrounds it will give you. It's an easy way to get started. If you find one you like, you may even consider adding another layer and putting a pattern on that. Then you can make it partially transparent, or use the drop-down box edits in the layers dialog box. If you understood that, good job. If you didn't look around on GIMP and maybe you will.

Ok, I tried going to the filters menu, but the patterns option wasn't on there.

It should be on the bar at the top... what version is your GIMP? It may be different from mine.

I'm on Mi Kull's laptop right now, so I can't check my version yet. Good luck on GIMP... I think I'm going to get off now. You should experiment a little to see you if can come up with any cool designs. Bye!
